Turnbuckles Product Range

A turnbuckle is specified by its end fittings, thread size, take-up (adjustment) length, material and finish. The end fittings must match the connection at each side of the assembly.

End fitting options

• Eye & eye turnbuckle – closed eyes at both ends, connected with shackles or pins; a secure choice for fixed rigging.
• Hook & eye turnbuckle – a hook for quick attachment at one end and a closed eye at the other.
• Hook & hook turnbuckle – hooks at both ends for quick connection in light, non-critical tensioning.
• Jaw & jaw turnbuckle – clevis jaws with pins that connect directly to lugs, plates or eyes.

Material

Choose the SS turnbuckle for marine, outdoor and corrosive environments, or the MS turnbuckle for general indoor and sheltered use.

Sizing the take-up

Measure the distance between the connection points, then choose a turnbuckle whose closed and open lengths cover that distance with adjustment to spare. Keep enough thread engaged at each end once tensioned, and lock the body so it cannot turn loose under vibration. Our turnbuckle take-up and end-fitting guide explains this in more detail.

Hook-ended turnbuckles should not be used where a hook could disengage. Use eye or jaw ends for critical or overhead applications, and confirm the rated capacity of the exact size before use.
